The Talking Gazette

The Talking Gazette team

The Talking Gazette offers members of the community who are vision impaired or have trouble reading the local newspaper with a cassette recording of the Blue Mountains Gazette each week.

Here's how it works:

  • Volunteer narrators read all the news and interesting bits of information from each edition of the Gazette aloud and it is recorded on to a master tape
  • Another group of volunteers comes to Springwood Neighbourhood Centre to copy the master tape onto individual audio cassettes
  • These tapes are mailed out to community members in the post and, once they have listened to their copy, they return them to the centre via ‘Blind Post’.

The Talking Gazette service is free of charge. Recipients of the tapes says the service helps them stay in touch with local news and feel connected to the community. If you know someone who is vision impaired contact us on 4751 3033 to find out more about the Talking Gazette.
